In the name of beauty we sampled a bunch of charcoal products and rounded up our favorites.
Want to eliminate toxins and brighten your skin?
May Lindstrom The Problem Solver $100
Looking for luxury? This mask is it. Combine a tablespoon of the powder with a tablespoon of water to create a thick, bubbling mousse and then apply to your skin. The all natural ingredients (cacao, bamboo charcoal, soil nutrients, salts, and exotic spices) will eliminate toxins, clear breakouts and inflammation, and brighten your skin. You’ll feel a tingling, warming sensation on your skin while it dries– sit back, relax, and enjoy it: this is pure luxury. Underneath the mask, you’ll find relaxed, brightened skin.
Want silky smooth locks?
Hask Shampoo ($5.99), Conditioner ($5.99), Dry Shampoo ($7.99), and Deep Conditioner
We were blown away by how delicious these products smell. The citrus is bright and fruity, the perfect scent to help you wake up in the morning. Charcoal can absorb oil, so these are a great choice for oil-prone hair. Our favorite was the dry shampoo, which left our hair feeling refreshed after two days without washing. Also, we know a deal when we see one, and these prices are unreal!
Need to minimize those pores?
PCA Skin Detoxifying Mask $58 available to purchase at KUR Skin Lab in New York, New York
PCA Skin has professional, high-quality products that some of our favorite spas and salons use on their clients. Unsurprisingly, their white charcoal mask did not disappoint. The formula tightens pores and absorbs oil to remove impurities from the skin. I’m prone to redness and I was impressed by how this mask dried– there was no irritation afterwards!
Smell fresh all day long… with charcoal?
Piperwai Activated Charcoal Deodorant Stick ($16.99) and Jar ($11.99)
I’ll admit it– I was pretty skeptical of this product. I know all of the benefits of all-natural deodorant, but I just didn’t believe it could get the job done. I was amazed by the results. The scent is natural, a combination of essential oils, and the product really works– we tested it during long, sweaty commutes and it holds up!
Exfoliation nation! Even for those with sensitive skin…
Aenon’s Charcoal Exfoliating Clay Mask $20
Another facemask, this one focuses on exfoliation and brightening. This mask comes with 5 packages, which means each mask costs about $4– a total steal! Just add a little water to the powder (less than a teaspoon) and spread across your face for a light exfoliant. This mask is great for sensitive skin, it’s not too intense but it still gets the job done.
Want to smile brighter?
My Magic Mud Tooth Powder ($19.99) and Toothpaste ($9.99)
Toothpaste is probably the charcoal trend you’ve heard most about– it’s everywhere. I was skeptical of this product too, but happily impressed by the results. After just one use, my teeth were whiter and brighter.I switched back to my standard toothpaste for two days, and my teeth looked less white immediately. I definitely won’t be switching back again any time soon!
Want to purify your body?
Giovanni D:Tox System: Purifying Body Wash ($9.95), Purifying Body Bar ($4.99), Purifying Exfoliant Body Scrub ($9.95), and Replenishing Body Lotion ($9.95)
Turns out, charcoal can be great for more than just your face: your body will be cleansed and renewed after following Giovanni’s D:Tox System. Start with their Purifying Body Wash and Body Bar to cleanse your pores. Follow with their Purifying Exfoliant Body Scrub to leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. The last step in the program is our favorite: Giovanni’s Replenishing Body Lotion will leave you feeling soft and rejuvenated.
