Why Applying Moisturiser Is Something You Do, Every Day

If you do just one thing for your skin, it’s this.

Moisturising. You know it’s the golden rule of caring for your skin. But life gets busy and after a long day of work, all you want to do is sink into the couch and lose yourself in your favourite TV show.

It seems silly to even think that applying moisturiser is a big job, but sometimes it can feel like it. But even on those late nights and early mornings, remember how beautifully glowing your skin looks after moisturiser. And this is the same for every complexion type, too.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record when it comes to moisturiser, we’re going to talk about it again (because it’s that important). Even if you’re a minimalist with skincare, there are two things you simply cannot miss: cleanser and moisturiser.

Your cleanser removes dirt, grime and excess oil from your face. Then, the moisturiser will deeply hydrate and nourish it. Plus, if your moisturiser is in an anti-ageing collection, it’ll help to fight wrinkles, lines, sun spots and discolouration.

External factors like pollution and UV rays can all damage your skin’s moisture barrier (which a good moisturiser will fix). And you already know that as you age, your skin has a harder time staying hydrated, so moisturiser is essential – twice a day.

Applying your moisturiser correctly.

Okay, so you know you need moisturiser, but do you know there’s a specific way to put it on? It’s not some secret motion, don’t worry. All you need to do is remember to apply the moisturiser when your skin is damp. Wash your face with warm (not hot) water and gently pat your face.

If you can, be wary of the products you’re putting on your face after moisturiser. Treat your skin well (and let it breathe with your moisturiser) by using quality cosmetics that are non-comedogenic. In other words, products that won’t clog pores and make your face breakout.

Your moisturiser will work to keep you hydrated, so you don’t want other products to counteract this. If you wear makeup, look for natural cosmetics that don’t contain chemicals, dyes or fragrances. They can cause irritation and allergies.

Oh, and don’t forget to follow up your morning skincare routine with a nutritious, antioxidant-infused breakfast. Doing these two things habitually will change the course of your entire day.
